A new Tree Removal Permit is required for removing trees from your property.
The Borough was required by the NJDEP to pass a Tree Protection Ordinance (Ordinance 10-2024). This ordinance requires a Tree Removal Permit be turned into the Borough for review by the Code Enforcement Officer prior to a street tree with a Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) of 2.5'' or more or any non-street tree with a DBH of 6'' is removed. The Code Enforcement Officer has 14 days to respond.
After the permit is approved, the resident will be required to do one of the following:
- A tree will be purchased by the property owner and planted on the property,
- A tree will be purchased by the property owner and planted in an approved area within the Borough of Allentown, or
- Payment of $150.00, payable to the Borough of Allentown, will be made for purchase of a tree to be planted on public property.
Please be advised that nuisance tree removals and tree removals necessitated by improvements, where the owner has an approved site plan, will automatically be approved for removal. If you have any questions about the Tree Protection Ordinance or the Tree Removal Permit, please reach out to Code Enforcer Ron Gafgen.
