Monmouth County Highway Division to Repave Roadways in Mid to Late September

The Monmouth County Highway Department will be conducting several upcoming road resurfacing projects in and around Allentown Borough. The work is planned for mid to late September and will include the following roadways:

• South Main Street – from 157 South Main Street to 122 South Main Street
• South Main Street – from High Street to Waker Avenue
• Yardville-Allentown Road – from the Mercer County border to the Monmouth County Bridge (U-13)
• Globus Plaza – from Globus Plaza to South Main Street

To minimize impacts on residents, commuters, and school transportation, all work will take place during evening hours to avoid peak traffic periods.

Each night, only a portion of the roadway scheduled for resurfacing will be milled. Whenever possible, vehicles will travel on newly paved surfaces rather than on milled sections. Each road will typically require approximately two nights of work—one night to mill and pave one side of the roadway and a second night to complete the opposite side.

Following completion of the paving, the Monmouth County Division of Traffic and Engineering will repaint all pedestrian crosswalks along the affected roadways.

Work is weather dependent, and schedules may be adjusted as necessary.

Message boards will be placed along the affected roadways to notify motorists and residents prior to resurfacing. Residences directly affected by the work will also receive advance notification.

The Allentown Police Department has been hired to assist the Monmouth County Highway Department with road closures, traffic control, and detours during the work.

Residents and motorists are asked to use caution, follow posted detours and traffic directions, and allow additional travel time when traveling through the work areas.
