Bill 4048 would prevent warehouses from being built within 1,000 feet of a historic district.

Here's an update on Bill 4048 which would prevent warehouses from being built within 1,000 feet of a historic district.

Here's an update on where we are with this legislation, S4048/A5241, which would prohibit a county or municipality from approving the construction of certain warehouses on a lot of land within 1,000 feet of a historic district.

The Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee passed the bill by a 3-2 vote. The bill was then sent to the Budget Committee for further amendments, and we are hopeful for a March hearing date, followed by a Senate voting session that same month. On the Assembly side, we are aiming for both the committee and full Assembly votes to also take place in March. However, dates for both the Senate and Assembly have yet to be finalized, so things may change.

This bill has gained major support from our County Commissioners, who passed a resolution in full support of the legislation. See below. This initiative was spearheaded by Councilwomen Nikki Darling and Erica DeKranes, who helped get this resolution passed within a week of first mentioning the idea of such resolution to Commissioner Licitra.
